CAR

Bangui is the transport hub of the Central African Republic. As of 1999, eight roads connected the city to other main towns in the country, Cameroon, Chad and South Sudan; of these, only the toll roads are paved. During the rainy season from July to October, some roads are impassable. Most business travelers and tourists use taxis to get around Bangui, but rates can be quite expensive. Cabs are readily available at the airport, but be prepared to negotiate the fare. Alternatively, you can rent a car from internationally-recognized companies like Avis and Europcar, which have desks at the airport. The Ubangi River connects the Central African Republic to neighboring countries, and is served by boats and barges. The waterways can take you to Stanley Falls, which is close to Brazzaville and Kinshasa. Traveling by boat takes time, but it is generally an affordable and enjoyable way to go on day trips.
